Schley County belongs to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit, which includes Lee, Macon, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, and Webster Counties. The county page lists Circuit Court Administrator Debra Gibson with phone 229-928-4553 and fax 229-928-4552. The District Attorney and Public Defender for the Southwestern Circuit are based in Americus and serve Schley County cases within the circuit.
The local court structure is compact. Superior Court records route through the Clerk of Superior Court, while Probate Court and Magistrate Court also operate from the court annex for their own case types.

Superior Court vs Local Courts
The record holder changes with the case type. Superior Court is not a catch-all for every court matter. Magistrate Court handles many first-contact and lower civil matters, while Probate Court handles estate, marriage, traffic, and vital-record functions in Schley County.

Superior Court Record Divisions
The Schley Clerk of Superior Court files and manages civil records, including divorces, child support, adoptions, and liens. Criminal records include misdemeanor and felony filings, warrants, accusations, and indictments. The same clerk office also manages jury records and land-related clerk filings such as deeds, plats, mortgages, and UCC records.
Not every clerk record is a case file. A deed, lien, plat, UCC filing, notary commission, or DD214 record can be a clerk record without being a lawsuit. For case records, identify whether the matter is civil, criminal, divorce, or another Superior Court type before asking for a copy.
Southwestern Judicial Circuit
The Southwestern Judicial Circuit includes Schley County and five nearby counties: Lee, Macon, Stewart, Sumter, Webster, and Schley. Criminal prosecutions are handled by the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney. Indigent defense is handled through the Georgia Public Defender Council's Southwestern Circuit office, with David Winheim listed as Circuit Public Defender.

Magistrate and Probate Courts
Magistrate Court is the practical starting point for warrants, civil claims up to $15,000, bad checks, dispossessory matters, county and state ordinance violations, and school truancy. Probate Court handles wills, estates, guardianships, conservatorships, marriage licenses, weapons carry licenses, traffic court, vital records, and election-superintendent duties. A separate official Ellaville municipal court page was not located in the research, so city-issued citations should be checked against the citation paperwork.
